My Book – Feminism: A Key Idea for Business & Society

I’ve been insisting that Feminism and Business need each other for so long, they asked me to write a book on it. And I did!

Learn why business needs feminism to help solve its biggest problems from their roots. And, why feminism needs business to transform work, products, companies and the economy.

I’m CV Harquail, PhD

Tool-builder, writer, scholar, speaker, activist and a cutting edge advocate of feminist business, I’m here to help you build feminist practices into your business.

I believe we need to transform business from the roots.

I believe feminism offers the sharpest tool AND most visionary framework for fixing business’s biggest problems, and transforming it into a paradigm of collective flourishing.

And I believe business is one of the greatest opportunities we have to grow, share and redistribute power and resources according to our feminist values.

I Advocate Collective, Inclusive, Transformational

Feminism

This perspective on feminisms draws from the wisdom of all streams of feminism that:
  • Envision the equal humanity and flourishing of all people and living things

  • Understand feminism as a group project (not for individual advancement)

  • Aim to transform the matrix of oppressions to create a new world, by putting feminist values into practice.

I define feminism as a movement for all people to:
  • End sexism and all* oppressions

  • Establish political, social and economic equality

  • Create a world in which all people and all living things flourish

*racism, settler colonialism heterosexism, classism, speciesism, capitalism, ageism, imperialism, ativism, ableism, fatism, and all oppressions

  • I believe that all systems of oppression—especially White supremacy, settler colonialism, sexism, heterosexism, ableism, nativism, and capitalism—reflect the same fundamental lie: that some humans are better than others, deserve more than others, and should profit by controlling and taking from others. We can use our understanding of gendered, racialized, and classed dynamics to transform work for a world where all people can flourish.
  • The feminism that I aim to practice is radically inclusive, collective, expansive, and multi-dimensional. This feminism guides us to confront all forms of oppression, recognizing that gendered oppression offers us insights that can help us challenge and change illegitimate systems of power everywhere.
  • Explicitly, radically inclusive feminism calls us to join with intersectional #BlackFeminist initiatives directed against White supremacy and to support indigenous feminisms addressing settler colonialism and promoting sovereignty.
  • My feminist practice and my work are focused on co-creating a world where the politics of domination are no longer normal or possible. (H/t to Kelly Diels for this clear language.)
  • Businesses can be sites of social change and social justice, if we choose to make them so. Because my focus is on feminist business practice, I challenge systems of oppression as they are made manifest in our work, our organizations, and in the economy.

Territory Acknowledgement

I acknowledge that I live and work on the current and ancestral homelands and waters of The Council of Three Fires: The Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomie nations, as well as the Menominee, Miami and Ho-Chunk nations. These lands and waters were and remain sites of home, trade, travel, gathering, and healing for members of more than a dozen Native tribes.

In support of Native sovereignty and decolonization, I use my own work to co-create a world where the politics of domination, such as those maintained by settler colonialism, White supremacy, and all systems of oppression, are no longer normal or possible.
